Tater Drop: July 12th

We invite the local community to join Virginia Tech's Upward Bound/Talent Search students in a a local community service project on Saturday, July 12, 2008 . The Society of St Andrew works with farms all across Virginia to help collect excess agricultural products and distribute them to needy families across Southwest Virginia. This Saturday several thousand pounds of sweet potatoes will be dropped off and bagged to be distributed by the Second Harvest Food Bank in Salem.

In fact, forty thousand pounds will be dropped off for this event. While all of our Upward Bound students will be in attendance, we could really use your help. The project should only take about 2-3 hours and any time you can give will be appreciated.

The bagging will take place in the Duck pond Overflow Lot on Oak Lane at the corner of Duck pond Drive. Set up will begin at 1:00 p.m with the potatoes being bagged starting at 1:30.

Potatoes will be distributed to the network of relief organizations all across Southwest Virginia that are served by the Second Harvest Food Bank in Salem.

The Tech Potato Drop is co-sponsored by the Service-Learning Center, The Society of St Andrew and The Second Harvest Food Bank of Salem.
