Volunteer Fair at GobblerFest!

Welcome to the Hokie Neighborhood.
This first annual welcome festival hosted by UUSA includes the VT Engage Volunteer Fair. Over 110 Service vendors will be on hand from 2-6 p.m. to talk about their organizations and recruit volunteers. Go to www.gobblerfest.org for more information on Gobblerfest 2008.
Art Volunteer Needed for Project ESTEEM
Project ESTEEM is an afterschool program for African American and biracial children, and involves a collaboration between VT, Radford, the Montgomery County Community Group, the Montgomery County Public Schools (Christiansburg Primary in particular), and the Christiansburg Institute. The project team is seeking a service-learning student or volunteer who has expertise in art - art with an African or African American focus - for young elementary learners. FSD currently partners with organizations in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, India, Kenya & Uganda working in the following development subjects:
*Microenterprise/Microfinance * Environment * Appropriate Technology * Women's Empowerment * Human Rights * Health * Youth & Education * Community Development*
Applications to intern or volunteer abroad this winter with a community-based organization in Africa, Asia or Latin America will be accepted through November 1st.
WHY FSD?
FSD partners with locally managed, locally founded organizations who represent the voice of their communities. Through building relationships and working side by side with sommunity leaders on local issues, FSD supports collaborative solutions that offer the greatest chance for sustainable results. Tater Drop Results: Over 36,000lbs of Sweet Potatoes Bagged July 12th
Over 125 volunteers, including over 80 youth from Upward Bound at Virginia Tech bagged over 36,000lbs of sweet potatoes on behalf of Second Harvest Foodbank of Southwest Virginia. The Sweet potatoes were bagged in about 4 hours and loaded into a tractor-trailer provided by Second Harvest.
Potatoes were distributed to the network of relief organizations all across Southwest Virginia that are served by the Second Harvest Food Bank in Salem.
The Tech Potato Drop was co-sponsored by the Service-Learning Center, The Society of St Andrew and The Second Harvest Food Bank of Salem.
Hokie Hands Trailer Developed
To support the ongoing efforts of Virginia Tech students and staff to be actively engaged in service to the community, the Service-Learning Center has created the Hokie Hands Trailer. This trailer is stocked with tools, supplies, and safety equipment to support hands-on service projects involving Virginia Tech students and staff.
